April 10, 2024
In spring of 2024, Eddyline utilized the Business Emissions Evaluator Tool from the Climate Change Project to quantify our Eddyline Carbon footprint. Our BEE self-assessment determined that Eddyline generates an estimated 2,995tons of CO2e annually. Below is a summary of our current carbon footprint, our reduction goals, and our carbon offset opportunity:
Our Carbon Footprint:
Measuring our carbon footprint gives us a clear idea of how to improve. Like many manufacturers, the majority of our emissions are generated through a combination of Scope 1 (direct emissions under the company control) and Scope 3 (indirect emissions from our suppliers).
This is our first year of measurement – in 2024 we will seek to both refine and benchmark our carbon footprint measurement.
Reduction Goals
In 2024, we will implement the following changes to reduce our carbon footprint. In 2023 we consolidated our production close to our critical suppliers and centralized our warehouse, enabling us to set the following goals:
Total target reduction in 2024: 8-12%
Carbon Offset
Beginning in 2023, we initiated a project with The Clean Wave in Costa Rica to preserve and protect critical and fragile mangrove forests. Mangroves are particularly efficient at sequestering carbon, and kayaks are a particularly useful instrument for frontline scientists and volunteers to preserve these critical environments. In 2023 we donated four kayaks to their efforts, and in 2024 we will be working with The Clean Wave and their partners in developing verifiable, certified carbon offsets for the protected areas. If successful in certifying this project, we anticipate being able to thus offset a significant amount of our carbon emissions post-reduction through this partnership.
