At Eddyline our purpose is “to build quality craft that inspire people to safely and equitably enjoy access to clean and healthy waterways”. We strongly support safe paddling, however we are opposed to WA HB 1018 for the reasons that we have laid out in this letter. We do not believe that this approach will effectively promote safe paddling, but we do feel it will unfairly limit access to our sport at a time when people need it the most.

We recently became aware of a bill in the Washington state legislature that would require a mandatory boater education training, test and license in order to paddle a kayak, canoe, or paddle board in state waterways.
At Eddyline we strongly believe in the importance of safety. Our purpose as a company is “to build quality craft that inspire people to safely and equitably enjoy access to clean and healthy waterways”. However, we believe that this bill does not further the cause of safe paddling and unfairly reduces access to kayaking among Washington citizens.
