Accessorizing your kayak: Spring gear must haves

With so much kayaking planned for this spring, you’ll need more than just your boat and paddle to execute your hydro missions. Are you thinking of exploring the boundaries of kayaking a little further? Maybe you want to learn to roll, maybe you want to pursue fishing from the cockpit, or perhaps you're just curious what extra outfitting is available for kayaking these days. Good news, you're in the right place to read about the hottest accessories for kayaking this spring!

Hatch Covers
As you inventory and trip check your gear in preparation for spring paddling, be sure the hatch covers on your kayak all still seal properly and have tethers. Eddyline has tons of shapes and sizes of covers in stock, even some for our older, discontinued models. It would be a shame to show up on a remote beach after a long days paddle, only to pull your evening picnic out of the hatch and see that it’s soggy.

Spray skirts and cockpit covers
If you are looking to start paddling longer distances, in cooler temps, learn your roll or just avoid getting drips of water on your legs while you paddle, a spray skirt is imperative. Spray skirts snug around the kayaker’s waist and then cinch around the lip of the cockpit thus keeping the paddler dry and warm.
Cockpit covers are nice for storage and transport. Whether en route to the water or in the garage stowed, put a cockpit cover on your kayak to keep out spiders and dust, and keep your outfitting clean and preserved for years to come.

Angling Bobs
Eddyline has many angling specific outfitting after-market items to offer. Here are some favorites of fishermen…

Sea-dog Flush Mount Rod Holder With Cap -A convenient hands-free rod holder that mounts on the gunnel tracks installed on all of our Caribbean kayaks.

Caribbean 14 Footwell and Tackle Box Pads - Adhesive traction pads compatible with the Caribbean 14FS, Caribbean 14, Caribbean 12, and Caribbean 12FS.

YakAttack LeverLoc Anchor Trolley Kit with Backing Plates- The first anchor trolley designed specifically for the job, the YakAttack LeverLoc Anchor Trolley features a LeverLoc line clamp, which locks your trolley line in place with a simple flip of a switch motion. This model features the HD option, which gets you two extra PadHooks plus backing plates for the pulleys and LeverLoc, enabling a heavy duty install.

Yakattack Stealth Pulley with Hardware- A top-shelf option for a snag proof anchor line.

Yakattack Track Mount Vertical Tie Down- Compatible with existing track systems to create tie down points for coolers and overnight equipment.

Twistlock Beverage System
One important part of paddling can be beverages. On an early morning paddle, maybe you want to bring your coffee thermos. For the mid-day heat, maybe you want to easily access your canned sparkling water. Whatever beverage you want to bring kayaking, Twistlock Beverage System has an awesome portable mount that’s compatible with multiple styles of beverage holders. The mount keeps your beverage safe and ensures a spill free paddle trip.

Northwest River Supply (NRS)
If you're looking for safety equipment, a personal floatation device, sun protective paddling attire and beyond, NRS has you covered. Here are three favorites for paddlers this spring…

Dry bags - Small ones under 10L are a best fit in Eddyline hatches for housing gear for multi-days.

Safety Equipment - Pocket flares, paddle floats and whistles are all important gear to bring on remote trips.

Aleutian Deck Bag or Sea Kayak Mesh Deck Bag - Deck bags fit nicely on your stern and hold your snacks, map, sunscreen and other must-get-to-quick items for your sojourn.
