Bring a kit to outfit you for successSun protection, life jacket, water shoes, a hat, sunglasses, a paddle and a kayak. Maybe bring a water bottle too!

Don’t look like a newbie Adjust your foot pegs for optimal power and performance. Get up on your sit bones. Don’t push your weight too far backwards of the center of the boat. Be in an upright position.
How to hold a paddleHold the paddle with a paddlers box. This will help you transfer power from your body, to the blade, and to the water to propel you forward. Think about the angle of the power face.
Forward stroke Drop the blade in the water close to the nose or bow of the boat. Top hand is pushing. Bottom hand pulls. Rotate with the core to drive forward. Avoid the death grip.
Look where you want to goLook away from the obstacle and you’ll get where you want to go.
